The rivers in the former Soviet Republics include many great rivers, but in the plains they are long and wide, with limited rapids. You must go inland to the mountainous regions where there are so many great whitewater rivers. But to run such rivers is very difficult. Rivers are often remote and difficult to get equipment and people into. Because of this, the trips must be run as expedition class IV-VI trips which are typically very lengthy. These trips require a very special group of boaters, some are world class, some are former Olympians, some just dare to take on Xtreme™ challenges. Plan at least two weeks for Class V rivers... We endeavor to challenge these rarely done great rivers in distant lands, remote, isolated, beautiful, and pristine! Why you ask? Why because . . . they are there! And it is here where you will find their stories . . . the X-Stream Dream™ of the Xtreme Dream Team™!

Explore and run great whitewater rivers in the former Soviet Union.
Help to open wide new avenues to the Russian outdoors for Western adventurers and
travellers. To attract the attention of whitewater enthusiasts and outdoor
companies to incredible opportunities in a great "unknown" country. To find a closer
connection between whitewater folk in Russia and West. More on our goals!

Hey Boaters: Hope you can view this image and the images at the bottom of each page on the RAFTWEB site. This picture on this page is of 4 OU trained guides running the Tuoloumne R., (The "T" in California) in a home-made Russian paddle catamarran, note the kneeling positions. This river cat was made by Vladimir Gavrilov who also took the photos. "Vlad" is the technical advisor to Project Whitewater Russia/USA and all 4 of the paddlers are also project team member participants. Matt Frechette is in primary guide position, Khoa Ton in left front point, Mike Gong in right front point, and EL Martin Wong is left rear. There are still some opportunities to participate in the project for this August-October, 1998....and more for later years! |
This RAFTWEB is dedicated to the best boaters in the world who regularly challenge
the X-Stream of Whitewater Undertakings on the most difficult rivers on Earth!
They risk life and limb, and most do return...to do more...
Here's where the beginning boater, non-boater, or recreational boater
can view and experience a little of what the X-treme, expert, upper eshelon boaters do without
the risk or skill requirements. Maybe, someday, you too, will have the opportunity
to join in with the elite of whitewater boating! RAFTWEB is opening the gate to you!
